Design Thinking and Innovation Course Realized for Masters Students through the Collaboration of the School of Management at Universidad Externado and Harvard Business School

On Thursday, December 4, Srikant Datar of Harvard Business School was the special guest of Universidad Externado de Colombia to bring the Design Thinking and Innovation course to a close.  This is the only course of its kind in Latin America and was hosted by the School of Management at Externado.  The distinguished professor gave a seminar for both professors and students of the MBA and Masters of Business Innovation programs on the future of business education and the application of design and innovation concepts.

Plan Padrinos is winner of the Corresponsables a la Responsabilidad Social (Jointly Responsible of Social Responsibility)

The Directorate of Management and Social Responsibility at the School of Management, directed by Dr. Gustavo A. Yepes López was awarded at the ceremony in Madrid on September 23 by the Fundación Corresponsables (Jointly Responsible Foundation). The Foundation highlights that between 345 candidates from 10 different Ibero American countries, the labor of the Plan Padrinos Program and its contribution to Social Responsibility.

Students from the Undergraduate Program participated in the Intercollegiate Business Convention organized by Undergraduate Women in Business (HUWIB)

The School of Management, through the Academic Excellence Program, recognized the outstanding performance of Paula Andrea Piñeros, Karen Natalia Bojacá, Beatriz Angel and Janeth Castillo, students in their second, fourth, eighth, and ninth semesters were invited to participate in the Intercollegiate Business Convention (IBC), an event organized by the organization Harvard Undergraduate Women in Business(HUWIB), and carried out in the Hynes Convention Center in Boston, October 18-19.

Design Thinking and Innovation

The Academic Excellence program sent six masters students from both the Masters in Business Innovation and the Masters of Business Administration – who are currently participating in the Design Thinking and Innovation course – to Boston to take live classes with students of Harvard Business School (HBS) as delivered by Dr. Srikant Datar. This course is delivered virtually by the School of Management in collaboration with HBS and offers the unique opportunity for a select few to travel to Boston and represent the School of Management abroad.

Primeros Pasos en RSE Program (First Steps in CSR) – in agreement with the Local network of the Global Compact in Colombia

The Primeros Pasos en RSE is an exercise in developing the relationship between the University and Business. The program at the School of Management at the Universidad Externado de Colombia promotes social responsibility in management and business actions. First Steps looks to promote 3 fundamental objectives: the first is to support the management education of the students so that in the future they lead socially responsible businesses.

Students and Alumni from the School of Management visit Madrid

A group of about 20 students and alumni from the Master’s programs at the School of Management and 3 outstanding students from the undergraduate program won scholarships to participate in the Capital Intelectual y Gestion del Conocimiento (Intellectual Capital and Management of Information) at the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid. They spent one week in the capital of Spain from September 7 – 13 and participated in a virtual course from September 15 – 20.

Students from the School of Management participate in a Capstone Course at INCAE

A group of more than 20 students that belong to postgraduate programs at the School of Management attended a new version of the Capstone Course at INCAE from July 27 to August 2. Students from all over Latin America participate in the course. As INCAE indicates, “The program is designed to optimize the management abilities in MBA and postgraduate students from all over Latin America. It is an academic and practical experience with an intense international network that achieves an execution of an integrated and global vision.

For the third consecutive year, the School of Management of the Universidad Externado de Colombia ranks within the top 65 best executive education programs, published in the Financial Times. El Espectador Forums

The School of Management was invited to participate on November 5 in the Innovation Summit Forum 2014, organized by the El Espectador Forums. On the agenda is for the first time in Colombia, Chad Hurley, a legend living in the world 2.0, cofounder of YouTube, was the first designer of the user interface of PayPal. Additionally Professor Alejandro Boada from the School of Management will open the forum with the discussion, “Radical Innovation – Where are our minds?
